So after trying out several different deodorants and antiperspirants, anywhere from high end perfume style down to drug store brands and some other natural types, I’d have to say the “crystal” type deodorants are the absolute favorite winner for me. I have always struggled with underarm perspiration and odor. I found it irritating and embarrassing for many years. With most of the products I tried, I got little to no results, and often an artificial, chemical sort of smell that really didn’t do me any favors. So I decided to pare it right down to the bare basics. Isn’t it funny how often that is the best solution?
So I decided to give Lafe’s Natural Crystal Deodorant stick a try. Now at first I was somewhat wary of it – I didn’t want to walk around with armpits that looked like they were coated with salt or something. And definitely not stinky ones! These deodorants are very easy to use. You literally remove the cap, moisten the end with some water (i just turn on my tap and run a tiny bit of water over the end of the deodorant stick) then rub it all over the underarm area. It will feel damp for a minute or two, and then it dries completely. Just like it claims on their site, there is zero residue left behind, no white marks, and it certainly did NOT look like I had salted pits! Haha. It just looked like my normal skin. The first 3 mornings that I used this products (I put it on right after my shower usually) I was getting a bit discouraged. I still had a faint body odor coming from my underarms. I noticed it sort of smelled like the drug store type of deodorant I was using previously. My personal theory is that this was some residue left by the drug store brand, perhaps clogging my pores a bit, and that it was being sweat out by my body now that I wasn’t constantly slathering more on. I would say after about a week, I no longer noticed any scent whatsoever coming from under my arms. During the first week or two that I used Lafe’s, I felt that it only worked for about 12 hours, not the 24 hours of odor protection that it claimed. However the more I used this product, the more by body seemed to adjust to it and it was more and more effective. I now use this deodorant crystal after each shower (I shower anywhere from 3-6 times/week) and that is enough to keep my underarms smelling completely neutral. They are free from any “bad” body odor, and are not scented by any artificial products. On days that I do not shower, I still apply a little more of the Lafe’s deodorant in the morning. Sometimes, I dab a little vanilla absolute or peppermint oil under my arms, if I am feeling fancy 😉
I would also like to note that I have extremely sensitive skin that is often easily irritated and used to get red bumps on my skin where I applied deodorant. I did not have this problem at all with Lafe’s. So happy about that.

Bonus: for those of you who suffer from stinky feet, this product is totally safe to use on your soles as well. I personally have not felt the need to do so, but I know that is an issue for many people out there!

Overall I think that this deodorant is a great success!

Overall rating out of 5 stars: 5

Pros: natural, organic, easy to use, works great, very inexpensive (these deodorant crystals last WAY longer than a conventional deodorant stick, I mean months longer!), no residue or white marks (which means my clothes are saved from deodorant marks as well), gentle on skin/appropriate for sensitive skin

Cons: none really, unless you are very sad that it is unscented, in which case, you could always dab on a bit of essential oil to spice things up. Also I guess it is a “con” for some people that this product is not an antiperspirant as well, however in my opinion, perspiring is a natural detox of our body and really should not be tampered with unless you have a serious condition.

The bottom line: YES I will be buying this product again once mine runs out. After my body got used to it, it is the best deodorant I have ever tried, and I will continue to use it. Also I love it that they donate 1% of their profits to Breast Cancer awareness and prevention. Plus it is a no-animal-testing product. Yes. Good things.

Have any of you guys used natural crystal deodorants? Did you like them? What other natural deodorants have you tried?
