This is one of my favorite “natural remedies”. I mix this oil myself, and you can too!
This mixture is helpful for sore muscles, aches & pains, relieving anxiety and lowering stress levels, alleviating stomach/digestion issues, as well as smelling very nice and moisturizing the skin. It is easy and fairly inexpensive to make, and a little goes a long way – you should get many uses out of only a few ounces of this mixture. oils

You will need:

  • a small glass jar or bottle with a tightly sealed lid (about a 2.5 – 3oz container works well)
  • 2oz carrier oil (I use jojoba, however you could also use extra virgin olive oil, sweet almond oil, or even coconut oil but coconut is solid at room temperature so some people find having to warm it up to mix it is a hassle. In spite of that, coconut oil would be my 2nd choice if I did not have any jojoba)
  • 3 drops Clary Sage essential oil.
  • 1 drop Clove essential oil.
(note: you can add a few more drops of either essential oil if you like, but they both smell very strongly and are highly concentrated. Start out with this, and add more if you feel the need – but be careful with Clove especially, because undiluted it can burn your skin)

Mix all 3 oils into the glass container.

I find the best way to use this oil mixture is to rub it onto affected areas, similar to a massage oil. For example, if I have a very sore neck, I will put a little of this oil mixture on my hands and rub it into my neck muscles until it is all absorbed. Rub it into any sore or tense muscle groups. Better yet, get a friend, family member, significant other, etc. to massage it into your muscles for you if you can!
If I have an upset stomach, I will rub a little of the oil all over my abdomen and lower back.
You can also benefit from the healing properties of this oil by putting some in an oil diffuser, or putting a few drops on a piece of cloth or a napkin and sniffing it. (only take a few sniffs at a time, as inhalation of too much essential oil at once can give you a headache) This method works best for those who are wanting some relief from stress and anxiety.
For all over body healing, to relieve stress, anxiety, tension, muscle pains and aches – draw a bath, and put a few drops of each Clary Sage and Clove essential oil on their own directly into your tub, and add up to 1 cup of plain or lavender Epsom salts. Start with only a few drops, and add more if you feel it is necessary. Again be cautious as Clove oil is very strong and can burn your skin if you do not dilute it with the water from the bath. And ALWAYS be careful not to have essential oils directly touching your mucous membranes. It will be very painful. As in, do not get some on your finger and then rub your eye or pick your nose. OUCH!

I find this herbal mixture to be very beneficial when my body is sore, tired, in pain, or tense. I hope you also find relief by using it. Clary Sage and Clove are ancient herbs which have long been used for help with these issues, and many more. Traditionally, Clary Sage was very sacred. Cloves were some of the first spices ever to be used in trade! The best part is, it is all-natural, no drugs, no artificial chemicals, not harsh on your skin, inexpensive, and easy to procure the ingredients. Also, once you have bought some of these essential oils, you have a great supply to keep making a new batch when you run out. You could even make it into a fancy package and give it as a gift to someone to use as massage oil or with an oil diffuser! As a variation, or to improve the smell, you could also add 1 or 2 drops of Sweet Orange Essential oil. It will smell of Christmas!

*PLEASE remember that my advice does not take the place of a medical professional!
Has anyone tried Clary Sage and Clove as a natural remedy? Did you like it? What else do you use for pain, anxiety, tension, etc?

Thanks everyone, and happy reading! 🙂
