Ok now for the good stuff!
I bought this product myself, after having constant eye irritation from my previous mascara choices. The price is a bit steep for my taste, especially for a drug store brand, however I was fortunate enough to snag the last package that was a “double bonus“ – it came with 2 full sized mascaras instead of one. So that definitely sweetened the deal. Upon opening the package when I got home, I was pleased to see that it was all cardboard, which means recyclable! Brownie points! The tube is very cute, made to look all organic and leaf-y. This first thing I was really interested in was the  brush. In my opinion, the only ones worth using are those little silicone nubbly ones. They grab every lash, they don`t smush your eyelashes up and make the top of your eyelid all mascara marked. I was glad to see that it was in fact that type of brush.

On applying the mascara, You could tell right away that it was very smooth. It went on easily, and coated every lash. The color was a nice deep black, I really like Blackest Black mascaras. I did notice that in order to have a real impact of dark, voluminous lashes, I had to use multiple coats, 2 or 3 coats per eye. Once it went on I did not notice any flaking or drying out during the day. My eyelashes still felt supple and not like little spikes. When I got home at the end of that day, however, I was not so happy to see that a decent amount of black mascara has sort of slipped off of my lashes and onto the skin under my eyes, giving me a somewhat retro and not entirely attractive set of “raccoon eyes.“ I wasn`t wearing much other makeup at the time, so I decided the next day to try putting some powder underneath my eyes to keep my skin matte and hopefully discourage raccoon eyes round 2. This was to no avail. That evening when I returned home, my eyes were in the same lovely state as the day before. Darn it. So I gave it another shot – I put mascara only on my top lashes, thinking it may not transfer if it is not on the bottom ones. Sigh. Nope. This mascara just would not stay on my eye lashes.I was really quite disappointed. I really WANTED to like this mascara. Love it, even. Natural origins, recyclable packaging, smooth, flake free black mascara.. SO CLOSE.

Overall rating:

Out of 5 stars: 3
Pros: nice black shade, organic sourced, natural, paraben free etc, recyclable materials, didn`t flake, easy on sensitive eyes, cute packaging, went on smooth

Cons: very waxy, soft formula, transferred onto under-eye skin way too easily, would not stay on lashes, no waterproof formula available, EXPENSIVE compared to other drug store brands, had to use multiple coats to achieve desired effect.

The bottom line: I would NOT buy this mascara again. I will use up the one that I have opened, and pass on the un-opened one to a friend or colleague or something, because it may work better on someone who doesn`t have oily skin like I do. Good try Physician`s Formula, I like where you are going with this, and keep it up. I will try products from this company in the future, providing they are reasonably priced or I can get them on sale.

Let me know in the comments if any of you have tried this mascara, or another from Physician`s Formula, and how it worked for you!
